I am commanded by the Army Council to inform you that their attention has been drawn to a scheme for the re-settlement of regular soldiers in Hong Kong which
The has been initiated by the Governor of Hong Kong. details of the scheme are set forth in the attached report drawn up by Major B.C. Lake, D.S.O., The King's Own Scottish Borderers.
The question of the re-settlement of regular soldiers in civil life is always acute and the Council are ready to consider any suggestion which is likely to lead to a solution of this difficulty. The receipt of the notification that a successful scheme had been inaugurated in Hong Kong was therefore particularly welcome to the Council.
It is noted from the report that the Hon. Mr. E.D.C. Wolfe, C.M.G., Inspector-General of Police in Hong Kong is the Chairman of the Committee, and the thanks of the Council are particularly due to him for his services in this important duty.
In conclusion I am to add that the Council would be glad if their appreciation of the services of the Governor and the Inspector-General of Police, Hong Kong could be conveyed to them.
The Under Secretary,
Colonial Office,
Downing Street,
London, S.W.1.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
